A Tipton man faces multiple charges after he crashed into some rocks and left the scene while driving with cocaine in his system, police reported.
A woman called police at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday to say a man driving a van nearly hit her head-on and then swerved and hit some large rocks at the intersection of Elm Swamp and Elizaville roads.
Although the property and his van were damaged, the man left, and the caller followed him to a home in the 300 block of N. Elm Swamp Road, Lebanon Police Officer David Edwards reported.
Ryan M. Anderson, 36, Tipton, was outside the van and unsteady on his feet when Edwards arrived. Anderson reportedly told Edwards he hit the rocks and left the scene. Edwards found a glass pipe and about of gram of cocaine in Anderson’s pocket, according to court records.
Anderson failed two of three field sobriety tests. He submitted to a urine test that indicated he had cocaine in his system, according to charging information filed by Boone County Deputy Prosecutor Craig Olsinski.
Anderson is charged with possession of cocaine and paraphernalia, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance or its metabolite in the body and public intoxication.
